About Alison

Portrait of Alison BausseAfter completing a Bachelor of Psychology in 2005 at Western Sydney University, Alison worked in the field of occupational rehabilitation as a psychological injury specialist for 14 years. This involved helping people to return to wellness after experiencing a psychological injury as well as performing assessments to determine a person’s capacity to be at work. It also included best practice recommendations to ensure a successful and sustainable return to work upon recovery. Alison enjoyed working within this industry however her passion for her clinical work meant that she began working in private practice in 2013.

Whilst having extensive knowledge around the occupational wellness space, Alison is also passionate about working with people in overcoming life’s challenges and barriers to wellness. Alison believes that everyone has the right to experience happiness and strives to walk with the client through these difficult times of adjustment to come out the other side.

Alison sees a broad range of clients including those presenting with depressed or anxious mood, people wishing to process and resolve trauma (past and present), those with relationship challenges that may have perhaps experienced a break down in trust or the end of a relationship, as well as people wanting to move forward and make some positive change in their lives. Alison always takes a sensitive approach and is a trauma informed clinician.

In addition to the above Alison is also particularly passionate in helping women of all ages to find their voice and take charge of their life, perhaps for the first time. This may involve areas in their personal life such as parenting and relationships. It can also involve their career life such as finding a new job or finding an assertiveness that has long been untapped. Alison wishes for all the women she walks with to find a strength and confidence that sees them succeed at whatever goals they set.

Alison also enjoys helping those with ADHD, whether young or old, to navigate day to day barriers and reinforce a mindset of achievement and success that can sometimes be buried under a lack of self confidence in conjunction with coping with often co-morbid mood symptoms. As a person with lived experience of ADHD, Alison is able to empathise with the challenges and see both sides of the coin while empowering her clients to see their potential and support them as they work towards success.

Alison describes her treatment approach as eclectic and client focused. She uses a mix of therapeutic strategies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Positive (+) CBT, Motivational Interviewing and Solutions Focused Brief Therapy. What this means for clients is that Alison will always to take a personal approach. She knows that everyone’s goals are different, as well as their journey. While she’s focused on positive change, she also knows that change can mean something different to different people. For Alison, the focus is making counselling a safe space where a person can grow, learn, and find positive outcomes.

Beyond clinical interests, Alison’s main passion is focusing on family and the importance of supporting the next generation! Alison believes strongly in laying a healthy and loving foundation to support the growth of healthy, happy and resilient people that will cope well in an often changing and uncertain world.

Alison wants clients to walk away feeling positive about change after a session. She enjoys building positive and ongoing relationships with all of her clients and loves hearing their stories of success in wherever life takes them.
